Solly Mathata

b. 1962

“I can basically paint almost anything but my passion lies mostly in painting colourful farm landscapes with beautiful trees, rivers and mountains from all around southern Africa.”

Solly always loved drawing, but started a career in human resources after leaving school. He worked for many years in the mining industry before he eventually began his professional art career.

His detailed and beautiful artworks capture a sense of stillness and peace. Combining bright colours, he often captures the magic of beautiful cloudscapes and sunsets.

Solly Mathata is inspired and fascinated by classic South African artist like Adriaan Boshoff, Errol Boyeley, Chris Tugwell, George Pemba and Gerald Sekoto.

Solly believes art is a silent poetry of colours and images.
