Jerry Lion Motau

Jerry Lion was born in Ga Kgapane, Limpopo. He was inspired and encouraged by his father, Judah Lion, and uncle, Julion Motau.

Jerry Lion Matua has outstanding natural talent and focuses on creating artworks that feature portraits of real South Africans. Jerry lives in Hillbrow, a vibrant part of Johannesburg, where he draws most of his inspiration from, recording moments in time about life in and around Johannesburg. In 2000, the South African post office has commissioned Jerry Lion Matua for the illustration of South African stamps.
