“I’m inspired by people in general, and I love to paint figures, portraits and still lives that portrays interesting concepts and drama. For me it’s important to have strong concepts in my work that will engage with the viewer and create visual interaction and dialogue.”
Dewald is a passionate artist with a bachelors degree in Fine Arts.
His earliest working style was very illustrative and influenced by graphic novels, but over time he has developed a highly realistic look.
He is inspired by the old masters and how they painted figures and portraits. Dewald paints in both acrylics and oils. His still life images and portraits have a beautiful warmth to them. He has participated in a number of exhibitions around the country.
Dewald teaches art part time at the Umdali Institute of Arts.
